Hello Lakeview Academy family!
My name is Richard (Rick) Veasey. I am so very excited to be with you all and look forward to the amazing years ahead.
I come to you from Bradenton, FL where it never snows, and shorts and sandals are worn year round. There I taught Math at the middle and high school levels for several years and have had many leadership opportunities.
I earned my B.S. in Management Information Systems from the University of South Florida. While finishing this degree I was offered a part-time math teaching job at a middle school. After just one year of teaching, I knew this is where I needed to be. I later earned my Masters degree in Education Leadership from USF.
My family and I have been living in the Saratoga Springs area for the past three years and truly love this place. I have several years of Charter school teaching and administrative experience.
I feel my education and unique life experiences have truly benefitted me as I work with this incredible staff, you, and your students. I am absolutely looking forward to working as your Director and ensuring our students become Capable, Confident and Contributing members of society.
My name is Ashley Hintze. I grew up in Cowpens, South Carolina and moved (back) out to Utah in 2004. This is my 13th year teaching, my second year at Lakeview Academy as the Special Education Director and Elementary School Educational Coordinator. I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, gifted and talented and special education.
I graduated from BYU with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I later graduated from Converse College in South Carolina with an M.Ed in Special Education. I have a Gifted and Talented Endorsement and currently have 18 hours towards my Doctorate Degree in Counseling Psychology.
I taught first grade for 5 years in South Carolina before returning to Utah. I married a wonderful man, Sean (Seen), with two boys, Konner (14) and Tanner (13). We have one son together, Court (2). My husband owns a small BBQ restaurant called Seans (Seen) Smokehouse BBQ and Grill in Saratoga Springs.
My days are filled with teaching and motherhood. We enjoy fishing, camping, geocaching, and spending time outside. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, crocheting, and spending time with my family. Some of my favorite things are Alice in Wonderland, peanut butter (and chocolate) - especially Reeces Peanut Butter Cups and Peanut M & Ms, Dr. Pepper and Cherry Pepsi, beaches, and daisies.
My name is Diane Thurmond. I was born in Salt Lake City but grew up in Northridge, California and then Idaho Falls, Idaho. I raised my family in Twin Falls, Idaho and after taking care of my mother for six years in California returned to Utah in 2006.
My first year of teaching was actually in Lehi, Utah, but I also taught in Buhl, Idaho, and San Jose, California, then returning to Lehi. I have taught 6th grade math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, art and general ed classes at a technical college.
I graduated from BYU with a B.A. in Mathematics, then completed a M.Ed in Instructional Technology. I have a Library/Media Endorsement and have been the librarian at every school at which I have taught
I have three grown children (each living in the state in which they were born - California, Idaho and Utah) and three wonderful grandchildren (with two on the way!)
As a librarian, books are a passion, but they compete for my time with knitting. (It's hard to knit and read at the same time - but sometimes I manage.) I enjoy hiking, wildflowers, bird watching and gardening - now confined to pots in front of my townhouse. Everyone who knows me knows I love burgers, See's chocolates, Diet Coke, flowers and especially my grandkids.
Hi, my name is Kimberly Thompson. I grew up in West Valley City and South Jordan Utah. I have six brothers and two sisters. I always enjoyed music; therefore I began my music education in 1999 at Utah State University. I also met and then married my soul mate in 1999, and soon after that we began our family.
We ended up moving back to South Jordan for a few years, where I went to school and graduated from Salt Lake Community College in Barbering/ Cosmetology and Esthetics. I worked in that field for a few years, but I never felt like I was making a real difference in society.
My husband graduated from the police academy and found a job with the Logan City Police Department. During all that time we had two boys and one girl. We have lived in Cache County for about seven years now. During that time I had the opportunity to volunteer in my children’s classroom. This experience brought me to the realization of my desire to be a positive influence in the education of children; I went back to school.
I now have my Early Childhood and Elementary Education Degree from Utah State University. I have had many great opportunities to work with some spectacular teachers who have helped me develop my own educational philosophy. I finished my education by working in a kindergarten class as an Intern at Edith Bowen Lab School on the campus of Utah State University.
We are now back in the south part of the Salt Lake Valley and ready for a new adventure. This is my first year teaching kindergarten at Lake View Academy. I am very excited for this experience and look forward to working with all the amazing teachers, children and parents that will come into my classroom.
I cannot believe how fast time passes. This is my third year at Lakeview Academy. Teaching and learning has always been an important part of my life.
I graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 2005. I taught first grade from 2005-2007 and then moved to Kindergarten two years ago. I love Lakeview, and am so happy to be teaching Kindergarten again this year!
On a more personal note, my family and I moved here four years ago from Plainview, Texas. I taught first grade my first two years in Utah. Then I was given the opportunity to teach Kindergarten at Lakeview Academy. Teaching children is truly a joy to me. I love to watch each child learn and grow throughout the school year.
My husband, Donnie, and I have been married for 24 years and we have three wonderful sons. Our oldest son, Joshua, married a precious young woman named Tess. They have been marred for two years and have a beautiful little girl, named Olivia. Our middle son, Jared is attending Utah Valley University where he is majoring in Computer Science. This year our youngest son, Jordan, is a senior at Lehi High School.
We have one pet (a little female Chihuahua) named Oreo. We live in Saratoga Springs and are very happy to be in such a beautiful place.
When I was born my parents were quite surprised to find that there were two of us (my brother bullied his way out first). This all began in Ephraim, Utah. Since then I have called Logan, Utah, Klamath Falls, Oregon and now Eagle Mountain, Utah home.
As a child I wanted to be many things but then I found a child care class in high school and have been in teaching ever since. I have taught for 24 years mostly in Oregon. I have taught all of the grades K-6th in elementary, however, my true love was discovered about six years ago when I was asked to teach a First Grade.
I have been married for 18 years to my best friend Roger and we have six fantastic kids. Three sons and three daughters—the youngest two were a surprise when we discovered that we too had twins and at birth found out that they were also a boy and a girl. It has been and will continue to be an awesome adventure.
I enjoy reading, quick quilting, spending time with my family, being a Cherishbound consultant and creating books.
I was born in Georgia and moved to Texas when I was 9 months old. I grew up in Texas all my life with my Mom, Dad, 3 sisters and 1 brother. I claim that I am from Texas. It was a wonderful place to grow up and I enjoy taking my children and spending time there as often as I can.
I moved to Utah to go to college and I have been here ever since. I enjoy the beauty of the mountains and enjoy being outside.Teaching and learning has always been an important part of my life.
I graduated from the University of Phoenix with my Masters degree in Elementary Education. I have taught 1st grade for five years at Lakeview Academy and LOVE IT! I love seeing children realize how smart they are and what they can accomplish.
I am married to my best friend Dan. I have four wonderful children. We love hiking, camping, and spending time together. It is a joy to raise children and be a family.
I enjoy quilting, reading books, scrapbooking, visiting with my family and friends and just having fun.
I am Angela Adzima and I am living my Dream! I have dreamed of being a Kindergarten teacher since I was Kindergartener.
This will be my fourth year teaching at Lakeview Academy, and my first year teaching 1st Grade.
I graduated from Western Governors University in 2006 with a B.A. in Elementary Education preK-8. My husband (Chris) and I have been married for 6 years and have two beautiful children Amanda (5) and Zachary (1). We live in the Ranches of Eagle Mountain and love this community.
I strongly agree with the words of Harry Wong "The teacher makes the difference in the Classroom." I know that throughout my schooling I have had many teachers make significant differences in my life and I am honored to have the opportunity and responsibility to make a positive difference in the children and families of Lakeview Academy.
I was born and raised in Southern California. I moved with my family to St. George, Utah when I was 18. I attended then, Dixie College.
I got married and had my son, who is 11 and my daughter who is 9. I got divorced and finished my degree. I received a Bachelor Degree from Utah State University from the Department of Education and Human Services. We moved to Utah County in 2007.
I enjoy spending time with my family, laughing and being goofy, going to museums, special events, movies, shopping, eating out, listening to music, dancing, reading, traveling (especially to the beach,) and baking.
This is my third year at Lakeview Academy and it had been a very rewarding, wonderful learning experience. I enjoy teaching and love working with children and being able to teach them to be Capable, Confident, and Contributing members of society. I am only one, but together we can affect these lives in monumental ways!
I was born in Utah and was raised in Southern Utah and Idaho. I attended Ricks College, BYU Jerusalem, Hebrew University, Cairo University, and Idaho State University.
I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I am excited to be at Lakeview for my second year. I love working with second graders and find each day rewarding.
When I am not at school I enjoy hiking. My family loves to go to Zions National Park. Our new love is the San Juan mountain range in Colorado. I love going to movies, out to eat, and spending time with my family!
I am a homegrown Idaho spud, having been raised in Idaho Falls. My husband and I have been married for a little over two years. We moved to Utah at the end of 2009. We currently live in Eagle Mountain. My hobbies include skiing, golfing, running, bike riding, and many more; basically anything outdoors! I also enjoy refinishing furniture, and doing projects around the house.
I have had the desire to teach since childhood. My desire grew to a passion when I had the opportunity to take a Career Exploration class in High School. That allowed me to spend two months in a 3rd grade elementary school classroom. My love for learning is another factor that drew me to the field of education.
I attended BYU-Idaho for my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. This will be my first year teaching. I am extremely excited to enter the field of education. I have a passion for teaching and working with children.
Hello I'm JoDeene Edrington. I teach in the third grade and have been here at Lakeview Academy since its opening, except for last year. I am glad to be back and excited to be working at such a great school with so many wonderful students!
I started my college schooling at BYU. I stopped to raise a family and eventually went to Utah State to finish my teacher degree. I have three grown children and 3 grandchildren.
I played sports in high school, community, and at college. Ive slowed down a lot since then, but still love sports and outdoor activities. My father was a teacher, principal and worked at the college level. I tell that because I was raised in a home where there was a passion and love for knowledgeregardless of its source. Hence, I love to teach and to learn.
Thank you for letting me be a part of your students learning process!
My name is Mr. Livingston. I teach third grade and this is my fourth year at Lakeview Academy.
Growing up in Oregon gave me an appreciation for the outdoors. There was always plenty of time for hunting, fishing, horseback riding, or various other recreational activities in the mountain or at the Pacific Ocean.
When I was in third grade, my mother hired a Belgian tutor who taught me a great deal about foreign languages. One of my favorite activities even today is to read a book in several different languages.
After graduating from high school, I went to BYU to study French and Chinese. I moved to Minneapolis a few years later so I could pursue a career in Investment Banking. While working in Minneapolis I attended the University of St. Thomas and graduated in Accounting.
I moved back to Utah and worked in foreign language banking in Salt Lake City. My responsibility at the bank was to speak to customers who could not speak English.
After many years at the bank, I decided to become a teacher. I received my MA in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix and started teaching third grade about four years ago.
This year I am teaching Language Arts, Math, P.E., and Health. I also teach the students a little bit about foreign languages on Friday when we have the time.
I like Lakeview Academy because the students are able to have a lot of different teachers. I think it is better for the students to have several teachers teach them different subjects than to have one teacher teach them all of the subjects.
I look forward to meeting all of you and hope this is the best year ever for Lakeview Academy.
Hello, my name is Mrs. Loveless. I was born and raised in California. I have lived all across this country. I joined the service with the hopes of becoming a better person. I was honorably discharged in 1998. I worked in the public sector for a short time and realized that my life needed more meaning.
I had always wanted to help children succeed in life, and what better way than to become a teacher. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Florida, with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with an ESL endorsement.
This is my third year at Lakeview Academy. I chose Lakeview because I love the school's philosophy and opportunities that foster a lifelong love of learning. I love teaching, and am thoroughly excited to be a part of our terrific Third Grade team.
Come along for the ride as we blast off into a new year, and watch my students reach for the stars.
I was born in Salt Lake City, but have moved many places since then. I grew up mostly in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I moved back to Utah after my student teaching. I then married a wonderful guy, Eric, and we now have three kids: Sydney, 8; Matthew, 6; and Noah, 3.
I knew I wanted to go into a profession that involved children and changed my major to elementary education during my sophmore year at the University of Idaho. It was the best decision! I have been teaching for 5 years. I love teaching and am happy to be back for a second year at this great school. Lakeview helps me to further my commitment to teaching with differentiation and helping students succeed. It is a wonderful experience to watch students grow and learn new and exciting things!
I currently live in Orem with my family. I love to read and go interesting places with my kids and I also like to garden.
I am excited to be a part of the family at Lakeview Academy. I look forward to working with the great kids and parents at a fabulous school!
I was born in Logan Utah and moved to Lehi during my junior high years. During my time at Lehi High School I loved being a part of the Musical Theater program and taking part in the performances; both on stage and behind the scenes. After a variety of classes and much pondering, this is also the place where I decided on a career, and my passion for teaching blossomed.
I then moved back to Logan to attend Utah State University. I graduated Cum Laude this last May in Elementary Education with a level II mathematics endorsement. I thoroughly loved my college experience and the classes that I took. I was able to work with all ages and found I loved the older elementary kids. I was lucky enough to get a job teaching fourth grade here at Lakeview Academy. This is my first year here and I love it so far. The staff and students have all been wonderful.
I have been married for over a year to my wonderful husband Andrew. Since both of our families are here we are excited to be living back in Lehi. We love to go hiking, skiing, camping, and going to Aggie athletic events together. In my free time I also enjoy reading and watching my 8 nieces and nephews.
I was born in College Park, Maryland to the family of a college professor whose goal in life it was to see the world. And the world we saw! We lived in British Guiana (now Guyana), South America, Scottsdale, Arizona, Orem, Utah (where he taught at BYU), College Station, Texas, and Redlands, California. I've also lived in Saudi Arabia, Montreal, Canada, Tri-Cities, Washington, Las Vegas, New Mexico, and many places in California.
After seeing the world, I couldnt be happier to be in Saratoga Springs at Lakeview Academy. Im so grateful to be part of this wonderful community of great teachers and administrators, concerned and involved parents and outstanding students.
I attended University of Redlands in Redlands, California and then continued on to graduate from BYU.
When Im not at school I love to cook, read, sing and play the piano, go to the theater, and especially spend time with my 6 children and 4 grandchildren.
I was born in Payson, Utah, two weeks late (I was supposed to be a Christmas baby). My family lived in Spring Lake, Utah (where my Mom grew up and one of the most beautiful places I’ve been) until I was 4 and then we moved to the small Southeastern Utah town of Castle Dale. My Dad worked 2 full-time jobs, one as a high school English teacher and the other as the Editor of the local newspaper. My Mom stayed at home and took care of my older brother, my younger sister, and me.
As a child I loved to play “school.” I loved writing, reading, jumping rope, monkey bars and the swings! Throughout Jr. High and High School I was in photography, on the Yearbook staff, the Newspaper staff and on the tennis team. In High School I was interested in becoming a Social Worker, but decided that teaching might be more fun. I always wanted to work with kids and make their time at school as enjoyable as mine had been.
In 1998 I received a scholarship and attended the College of Eastern Utah (CEU) in Price where I earned my AS. From there, I was accepted into Utah State University’s Elementary Education program through the USU extension in Price. I worked at a bookstore, a Middle School as a reading tutor, a waitress, and a Maid while going to school. After graduation, I had an interview with the owner of a charter school in Surprise, Arizona. I got a job teaching fifth grade!
My first year of teaching was quite an adventure. My son Wesley was born 16 weeks prematurely in the spring of 2003. He was in the hospital for 132 days but finally came home healthier than anyone had hoped or expected. During the remainder of our 3 years in AZ, I also taught a 5/6 grade split, 7/8 grade science, and third grade. In 2006 I decided to come back to Utah to be closer to my family. It was the best decision I ever made!
In the fall of 2006 I met my husband, and we were married last October. Our son is in first grade, and I love watching him learn. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, gardening, crocheting, reading, word finds, camping, scrapbooking, photography and sports – especially playing tennis and watching the NY Giants, the Utah Jazz, and the Colorado Rockies.
2009-2010 marks the eighth year of my teaching career, and my fourth year at Lakeview Academy teaching fourth grade. I love coming to school every day to see what my students have learned or what they want to learn.
I was born in Arizona, but raised in Sandy, Utah. After I graduated High School at Alta in Sandy, I moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University (Go Devils!!) where I earned my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. While going to school, I met my husband and was married in 2003.
After graduation, I taught in the southeast valley within the Florence School District. I earned my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University and graduated in 2009. In October of 2008, my husband was offered a position in Utah.
We have two children; Hayley, who is five, and Conner, who is two. We also have a four-year-old chocolate lab named Braiden. When I have spare time, I enjoy learning new hobbies. I enjoy quilting, reading, canning, watching movies and TV, riding bikes, and going out to fun places with the family. I am also an avid college football fan and love going to watch a variety of sporting events with my family.
This is my first year here at Lakeview Academy. I truly enjoy teaching and am excited to work with the community as we raise outstanding students and the future leaders of society!
I was raised in Spring Creek, Nevada right at the base of the beautiful Ruby Mountains.
I love the outdoors as well as singing, acting, reading, writing and spending time with my husband.
All my life I have had a love for learning and have always enjoyed sharing my
knowledge with those around me- so teaching was a natural fit! I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Teaching English Language Learners.
Before coming to Lakeview I taught 5th
grade in Provo, Utah. This is my first year at Lakeview and I am excited to help students discover all that wonderful things that an education can do for them!
I was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Bountiful, Utah. I developed many interests in my younger years that I still have today, such as fishing, hunting, gardening and outdoor recreation.
I joined the Utah National Guard at age 18 and subsequently spent 25 active duty years with the Army and retired in 2007. Half of my active duty time I spent as an Army instructor, a job I really enjoyed. Since I enjoyed teaching and have always enjoyed associating with kids, teaching elementary school was a good fit for me.
I have a business degree from Columbia College and have completed teacher certification requirements. The 2010-11 school year is my fourth year of teaching school at Lakeview Academy.
I am married and live in Riverton, Utah. I have three children, the oldest who teaches middle school English.
Greetings from Jedi Nelson,
I began my Jedi Training Program here at Lakeview Academy in 2007, the year I graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Utah Valley University with my degree in Elementary Education. I have enjoyed my years here and have had successful graduates from my program. I have a love of history. I feel much can be learned from the past. I feel the founding fathers patriotism needs to be rekindled in the hearts of students all over America. I spent this past summer In Boston, facilitating for the Jr. National Youth Leadership Conference. I experienced history at the primary source and am excited to pass what I learned onto my students.
I am a mother of 6 children and a grandmother of nine. I love children and enjoy exploring and learning things along with them. I love to see the light bulb come on as students connect to the material I am teaching. I am looking forward to another great year at Lakeview.
May the force be with us,
Jedi Kathleen Nelson
Hello, I'm Linnea Brailsford, a sixth grade teacher here at Lakeview Academy from Lexington, South Carolina. Growing up on a lake, I spent my free time swimming, boating, waterskiing, and tubing. I also love playing the violin and have enjoyed performing for many years. My other interests include reading, traveling, cooking, interior design, and tennis.
I attended Brigham Young University and earned a BS in Elementary Education. I am currently earning my Gifted and Talented Endorsement with our Lakeview Cohort through Utah State University.
This is my third year teaching sixth grade at Lakeview Academy, and I am excited about this year! I have a great interest in science and math, and love performing hands-on experiments with my students. This is going to be a fantastic year where I am eager to teach my students to be critical thinkers!
My dreams have always consisted of becoming a teacher. I had the chance to attend Brigham Young University and graduate with a Bachelors in Elementary Education.
Within the last 5 years, I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. I love to learn and I know that through the last few years, my students have taught me more than I have taught them.
My family is from Orem and they live on the beautiful foothills of Mount Timpanogos. I grew up loving to hike, camp, bike and do anything outside and as much as possible. There are also many other things that I love to fill my time doing but most of all I enjoy people and love to spend time with friends and family.
